Eye Exam Q & A

What happens during eye exams?

Eye exams at Todani Eye Center include:

If you wear contact lenses, or you’d like to try them, you’ll need additional special tests to measure your eyes, so contact lens exams take a little longer than standard eye exams.

When you schedule your eye exam, be sure to tell your Todani Eye Center provider if you’re considering contacts so they can plan enough time for your appointment.

Your Todani Eye Center provider creates a personalized eye exam schedule based on your health and specific needs. On average, most children and adults need comprehensive eye exams once a year. If you have specific health issues, for example, diabetes, you may need more frequent eye exams. And, you may need additional tests that the typical comprehensive eye exam doesn’t include.

Diabetic eye exams include all the same tests in a comprehensive eye exam along with an in-depth exam of the eye structures that are often damaged in people with diabetes. The blood vessels, retina, optic nerve, and other parts of the eye may sustain damage with elevated blood sugar levels. The most common diabetic eye disease, diabetic retinopathy, occurs in more than half of people with diabetes. Cataracts are up to five times as common in people with diabetes, and diabetes increases risk of glaucoma by 36%.

It’s especially important to keep up with diabetic eye exams over time. Early detection of diabetic eye diseases can help you to get the care you need to stay healthy and save your eyesight. Need a checkup or new glasses? Todani Eye Center offers all types of eye exams for every member of your family. Call the office or use the online booking tool to schedule your exam today.
